A Case of Amegakaryocyctic Thrombocytopenia Associated with Multiple Ulcerative Stomato-gossitis

Abstract

A 29 year old woman having thrombocytopenia, almost complete lack of
megakaryo-cytes in the marrow, and only minimal changes in other hematopoietic cell
lineages was seen.. Any possible drug relationships or other identifiable underlying
diseases couldn't be taken into account as a cause of megakaryocytic aplasia. Associated
multiple ulcerative stomato-glossitis which responded well to steroid therapy was unique
in this patient and suggested that immunologic factors played a role in this condition.
Clinically lithium carbonate and androgen seemed to have some effect for elevating the
quantity of platelets and long term follow-up should be placed on, though. Whether this
pure megakaryocytic aplasia have something to do with the variants of ITP, aplastic
anemia or preleukemia needs more investigation in future.
